Phil Dugal

“I am so grateful to be a part of the New Albany family! I have been teaching for the last 9 years in New Albany and have been an educator for the last 14 years overall. I am blessed to be married to Katie Dugal for the past 15 years, who is a 4th grade Math/Science/Social Studies Teacher at NAIS. We have two boys, Camden (8) & Austin (5), who are also New Albany Eagles. In addition to teaching 6th grade math, I also lead the Math Counts program at the Intermediate School & am one of the Intermediate School’s data coaches.

In addition to teaching 6th grade math at the Intermediate School, I am the 7th grade Head Football Coach for New Albany Middle School. I am an avid sports fanatic and at my previous locations, I coached middle school football and basketball as well as high school baseball. I believe strongly that there are many overlaps between academics and athletics and instilling a growth mindset for both myself and for my students is a core value of my educational philosophy.

I received my Bachelors Degree from The Ohio State University in Business Education. Additionally, I completed a Bachelors plus program for Middle Grades Math & Science from Ashland University and a Gifted graduate program from Duke University during our time in North Carolina. Finally, I received my Masters of Education from The Ohio State University in Educational Administration.

I am certified in Business Education (Grades 4-12), Middle School Math (Grades 4-9), Middle School Science (Grades 4-9), Gifted Education (Grades K-12), and Educational Administration (Grades K-12). “

“I am entering my 16th year teaching and my 14th year teaching at New Albany Plain Local Schools. At New Albany Intermediate, I am privileged to teach math to fifth graders. My goal every year is to encourage students to take risks, make mistakes, and gain confidence in their math abilities. I strive to build a classroom environment where students feel they are in charge of their learning and enjoy coming to math class every day! I love to learn, especially about math.  I am the Team Leader for math,  I have been part of the District Math Committee, and the committee to help find a math resource for the district.

Prior to teaching, I obtained an undergraduate degree in education at Indiana University where I was a member of the women’s swim team, and a member of the 2003 Big Ten Champion Team! The next five years I spent at Marshall University as the assistant swim and dive coach while earning my masters degree.

At home I am married to Patrick and we have two children. Caroline is in 8th grade and Carson is in 5th grade.  In my spare time, I enjoy adventures with my family, running, coaching swimming, and cheering on my children at their sporting events.”
